William Jamal “BJ” Claiborne of Hopewell, Virginia, United States has died. He was 28.
Claiborne is Derrick D. Washington, Sr.‘s eldest son. On November 14, 2016, Washington’s mother Debra Washington “Debbie” Hicks died at age 62.
At around 6:43 p.m. on June 24, 2023, the Hopewell Police Department received calls reporting shots fired at the Langston Park Apartments on Langston Park Drive in Hopewell. Claiborne was suffering from a gunshot wound when responding officers found him a few blocks away from the apartments.
According to the officers, Claiborne had been shot in his right arm and the bullet had traveled to his chest. The Hopewell man was rushed to TriCities Hospital in Hopewell then transferred to Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia where he was pronounced dead.
Jamari Antonio Taylor, 20, of Hopewell and Kristopher Lorenzo Miller, 19, of Chesterfield, Virginia are accused of shooting Claiborne. The Hopewell Police Department has yet to confirmed whether or not the victim knew the suspects.
On June 27, 2023, Taylor and Miller were arrested and booked into the Riverside Regional Jail in Prince George, Virginia. They were each charged with the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and second-degree murder.
