Lopez and the man arranged a meetup at Motel 6 on Northwest 36th Street in Miami, Miami-Dade County on August 21, 2021. She had been staying at the hotel with Jackson, Soutullo and McFatten.

That day, the man picked up Lopez, who was joined by Soutullo. The three drove behind the motel, got out of the vehicle and went to an area near the bank of an adjacent canal.

At one point, the man got thirsty and went back to his vehicle to grab a beverage. He was quickly blindsided by Jackson and McFatten, who repeatedly yelled they had a gun.

After punching and kicking the man, Jackson and McFatten demanded the man give them his phone, wallet and car keys. Jackson and McFatten followed the man as he stumbled towards the parking lot, followed him, assaulted him and took his wallet from his pants.
