Melissa Ingraham biography: 13 things about Miss Universe Bahamas 2023

Melissa Ingraham is a Bahamian environmental scientist and beauty queen with a vast background in Caribbean species identification and research experience in marine and terrestrial ecosystems. She has a passion for sustainability and tree planting. 

Ingraham has long been passionate about the protection and conservation of the Bahamas and its environment. She also enjoys gardening, landscaping, swimming and dancing and she loves cats and tacos.

Originally from Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, Ingraham is currently based in Long Island, Bahamas, Here are 13 more things about her:

1. From 2016 to 2018, she attended the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida, United States where she earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental science.
2. In October 2017, she received her rescue diver certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
3. From June 2019 to July 2019, she was a Bahamas National Trust intern.
4. From January 2020 to March 2022, she served as an Integrating Water, Land and Ecosystems Management in Caribbean Small Island Developing States (IWEco Project) manager at the Ministry of Housing and Environment of the Bahamas. From January 2020 to June 2021, she participated in CariPhilAlliance’s Caribbean Tree Planting Project as the national leader of the Bahamas.
5. In April 2020, she received her certificate in Principles for Reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments from Inter-American Development Bank.
6. In April 2022, she visited the Cat Cays in North Cat Cay, Bimini, Bahamas.
7. From May 2022 to August 2022, she worked for SEV Consulting Group in the Bahamas as an environmental technician.
8. In July 2022, she visited Rose Island, Bahamas.
9. In August 2022, she visited Runaway Bay, Saint Ann Parish, Jamaica.
10. In September 2022, she entered Maynooth University in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland to pursue a master’s degree in climate change.
11. In March 2023, she traveled to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
12. On July 2, 2023, she represented Long Island at Miss Bahamas Universe 2023 and competed against nine other candidates at the Atlantis Showroom on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
13. She was 26 years old when she represented the Bahamas at Miss Universe 2023 on November 18, 2023 and competed against 83 other candidates at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador. She was unplaced.
