Za’Khi Ray Williams of Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States has died. He was 2.
Williams is Maddie Bowen‘s nephew. He is Caleigh Cheeks‘ only child.
According to Cheeks, Williams loved animals, cartoons, dinosaurs, playing with other babies and Domino’s Pizza. She told WOK-TV, “He was special to me. He saved me.”
On July 11, 2023, Williams passed away in the residence of Brittany Napier, 31, of Dunbar, Kanawha County. She had been babysitting him there for a few days.
Napier confessed to placing a queen-size mattress over the top of the pack-and-play while Williams was inside of it, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department. It is believed he was found pinned between the mattress and the top rail of the pack-and-play, which resulted in death.
On the evening of July 17, 2023, Napier was arraigned at the Kanawha County Magistrate Court in Charleston before Kanawha County Chief Deputy Joe Crawford. She apologized as she was let into the court.
Napier was charged with child neglect resulting in death. She is being held on $250,000 bail.
