Davin Daniel Meyer, 18, of Castle Rock, Douglas County, Colorado, United States is Deanna Meyer’s son. He is accused of pledging an oath of allegiance to the leader of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and intending to leave the U.S. and go to Iraq to serve as a fighter for the terrorist group.

A former white supremacist, Davin began practicing Islam possibly as early as October 2020. After attending an eight-month-long camp that focused on mental health and behavior treatment between 2021 and 2022, the teenager started watching radical online content.

In June 2022, Deanna contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to report Davin’s behavior. Between June 2022 and November 2022, the sheriff’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation communicated with Deanna, who reported that Davin was willing to kill himself and others and talked about traveling to Syria to fight.

In October 2022, Deanna told the FBI that Davin had stated that he planned to get fertilizer and build a bomb in the U.S. if he could not go to the Middle East. While Davin had received mental health treatment, he refused medication citing his religious beliefs and claimed he was diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, major depressive disorder, adjustment disorder with mixed anxiety and depressed mood and specific learning disorder with impairment in mathematics.

In November 2022, Davin started communicating with someone he thought was an ISIS facilitator, who was actually an FBI undercover agent. Davin pledged an oath of allegiance to the ISIS leader and after the leader was killed in December 2022, the teenager pledged to the new leader of the terrorist group.

Between December 2022 and June 2023, Davin met with the undercover agent and another agent at different times. The teenager told the agents his mother provided him with money for an apartment and living expenses, which would be more than enough to fund his travel to Iraq.

On July 14, 2023, Davin tried to board a flight to Turkey at the Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado. He was arrested when he was on the jet bridge about to board the plane.

On July 17, 2023, Davin made his initial appearance in federal court. He was charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.

With assistance provided by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI’s field office in Denver is investigating the case. Jennifer Levy of the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section is assisting Melissa Hindman, the assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Colorado who is prosecuting the case.
