According to the search warrant application, Cebanu claimed that before Madalina went missing, she and her mother Rodica Cojocari asked him if he would assist her with smuggling her and Madalina away from their residence in Cornelius because she was in a bad relationship with Palmiter and wanted a divorce
  13. She was 38 years old when records were released on July 18, 2023, revealing that Palmiter was intentionally housed with a confidential informant in jail. The records also revealed that during a recorded jail call, she discussed a big bag of money and withdrawing cash with Rodica and a theory that Palmiter gave Madalina away for money.
