Akshay Bhatia, 21, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, United States won the 2023 Barracuda Championship. The professional golf tournament was held at Tahoe Mountain Club’s Old Greenwood in Truckee, Nevada County, California, USA from July 20-23, 2023.
This is Bhatia’s first PGA Tour and first European Tour victory. He tied for ninth at the 2023 Barbasol Championship, which was held at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, USA from July 13-16, 2023.
The prize fund at the 2023 Barracuda Championship was $3,800,000. Bhatia’s share was $684,000.
Runner-up to Bhatia was Patrick Rodgers, 31, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, USA. He received $414,200.
Jens Dantorp, 34, of Falkenberg, Sweden and Julien Guerrier, 38, of La Rochelle, France tied for third. They each received $224,200.
Bhatia was born in Northridge, Los Angeles, California to Sonny Bhatia and Renu Bhatia. They are of Indian descent.
On March 5, 2023, Akshay was runner-up to Nico Echavarria at the 2023 Puerto Rico Open at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Akshay finished fourth at the 2023 Mexico Open, which was held at Vidanta Vallarta in Vallarta, Mexico from April 27-30, 2023.
