Carlos Blanco, 71, is a citizen of Cuba, Honduras and the United States. On November 3, 2010, he was arrested by federal law enforcement and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography.
After initial hearings before a federal magistrate judge, Blanco was released on bond. He was expected to plead guilty at a court hearing on February 24, 2011.
When Blanco failed to appear for the change of plea hearing, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest. On February 25, 2011, the court declared him a fugitive.
For 11 years, Blanco hid in Honduras. In July 2022, he moved from the Central American country to Spain.
The U.S. Department of Justice Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) made a request for Blanco’s provisional arrest. Pursuant to this, he was arrested in Spain in March 2023.
Blanco consented to his extradition from Spain to the U.S. After arriving on a flight from the European county, he made his initial appearance in Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation‘s office in Miami investigated the criminal case against Blanco. He is facing federal child pornography possession and distribution charges.
