Carlethia Nichole “Carlee” Robinson Russell, 25, of Hoover, Alabama, United States has been arrested. She is the daughter of Carlos Rusell, 49, and Talitha Robinson Russell, 48, and the sister of Kymari Johnson, 30.
While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing at the Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama, Carlee worked part-time at Woodhouse Spa at the Summit shopping center in Birmingham. On July 2, 2023, she and her boyfriend Thomar Latrell Simmons, 25, of Birmingham visited New York City, New York, USA.
On the afternoon of July 28, 2023, Carlee turned herself in to the Hoover City Jail in Hoover. She smiled in her mugshot.
Carlee was charged with false reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting an incident, which are both Class A misdemeanors. Each charge carries up to one year in jail and up to a $6,000 fine.
For each charge, Carlee was given a $1,000 bond. Shortly after being booked, she was released on bond.
After leaving work on July 13, 2023, Carlee called 911,repoted a male toddler walking on I-459 South, a highway that runs south of Birmingham, and disappeared. When she returned home on July 15, 2023, she told investigators and her family that she had been abducted.
On July 24, 2023, Carlee released a statement through her attorney Emery Anthony. She admitted to lying about what happened on July 13, 2023.
Investigators still do not know where Carlee was in the 49 hours she was considered missing. It is still unclear whether or not she was with anyone during that time.
