Preston Alvin Chenier, 46, of DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana, United States has lived in different parts of Texas, USA including Baytown and Houston. Aside from DeQuincy, he has lived in other parts of Louisiana including Lake Charles and Westlake.
Chenier is the treasurer of the Cycle Knights of DeQuincy, which sponsored Pack the Pack for Juneteenth in DeQuincy on June 16, 2023. On July 3, 2023, he bought a new truck from Benoit Ford in DeRidder, Beauregard Parish, Louisiana.
In the early hours of December 4, 1999, a woman was driving down Texas FM 1764 with her husband after having a few drinks at a lounge. After they got into an argument, she got out of the vehicle and walked back to the bar.
The husband could not get his wife back in the car so he drove away. While she was walking in La Marque, Galveston County, Texas, a truck pulled up next to her and a man got out of the passenger side of the truck and forced her to the floor of the truck.
Armed with a knife, the man allegedly took the woman’s clothes off. He and another man, the driver of the truck, allegedly sexually assaulted her, cut her hair with a knife, took her automated teller machine card, drove to an ATM, withdrew $320 and threw her into a ditch.
In 2006, Chenier moved from Texas to Louisiana. In 2011, Calcasieu Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him for disturbing the peace, illegal use of a firearm, aggravated battery and possession of a stolen firearm, which were all ultimately rejected.
Through deoxyribonucleic acid, Chenier was tied to the case related to the sexual assault of a woman on December 4, 1999. In 2011, the La Marque Police Department was notified of the potential DNA match through the nationwide Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), which would have provided sufficient probable cause for an arrest at that time.
At around 11:00 p.m. on July 25, 2023, Chenier was arrested in Sulphur, Calcasieu Parish. At around 4:00 a.m. on July 26, 2023, he was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center in Lake Charles.
The DeQuincy man awaits extradition to Galveston County where he will be charged with aggravated sexual assault. He will not be charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
