Chad McArdle, 40, is the police chief in Boston Heights, Summit County, Ohio, United States. He is accused of attacking a homeless man in Key West, Monroe County, Florida, USA.
While shirtless, McArdle banged on the door of a taxi driver in Key West at around 1:00 a.m. on July 28, 2023 and said he was stabbed and some people wanted to kill him. According to McArdle, two white men pushed and dragged him into a vehicle outside Durty Harry’s bar on Duval Street in Key West.
The Boston Heights Police Department chief laid down and cried on the sidewalk. The taxi driver called 911.
Key West Police Department officers arrived and found McArdle, who appeared lost and stressed. He told the officers that two men stabbed him but he did not have stab wounds at all.
McArdle claimed that one of the men tried to stab him with a stick but he was able to grab it and use it to stab the man with it. The officers noticed that there were no blood on his hands and he was giving contradictory information.
Later that morning, the officers found a homeless man lying on the ground in the alley near Duval Street where McArdle’s shoes were found. The homeless man told the officers he was standing in the alley when he was kicked in the back by McArdle.
The homeless man and McArdle did not know each other. When the homeless man fell to the ground, he told the officers, McArdle kicked him in the back several times.
The officers arrested McArdle. Just before 3:00 a.m., he was booked into the Monroe County Jail in Key West on a misdemeanor battery charge.
Bond for McArdle was set at $2,500. On August 17, 2023, he will be arraigned in court in Monroe County.
