Misbah Batool and her daughter Iazia Zanoor of Brentwood, Town of Islip, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York, United States have died. Batool was 33 and Zanoor was 2.
Zanoor’s father Zanoor Jaffari, 31, was linked to an alleged history of wife abuse. They shared their residence in Brentwood with his parents.
The residence is near the Islamic Center of Suffolk County, which the family attended. The family has recently moved to Brentwood from Brooklyn, New York City, New York.
At 4:40 p.m. on July 30, 2023, Jaffari allegedly stabbed Batool and Iazia inside their residence in Brentwood. His son, 5, and his parents witnessed the attack and were not injured.
When Suffolk County Police Department officers arrived at the residence, Jaffari was standing in the middle of a room covered in Batool and Iazia’s blood. The officers found at the scene the weapon used to stab the victims.
Batool and Iazia were transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, Town of Islip where they were pronounced dead. Jaffari was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, Town of Islip.
After a medical evaluation in the hospital, Jaffari was released into police custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder. On July 31, 2023, he appeared in First District Court in Central Islip, Town of Islip on the charges.
Represented by defense attorney Lawrence Carra, Jaffari pleaded not guilty to stabbing Batool and Iazia. The defendant was held without bail.
Before Jaffari goes back in court on August 16, 2023, he is expected to undergo psychological testing. Relatives have temporary custody of his son.
