David Apperson, 32, is a police officer in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, United States. He is a five-year veteran of the force.
On July 27, 2023, Apperson allegedly sexually assaulted an individual in Woodhaven, Wayne County while he was off-duty. The alleged victim is an adult.
On July 29, 2023, an off-duty female Detroit Police Department corporal allegedly brandished a firearm during a road rage incident in Madison Heights, Oakland County, Michigan. She is a 26-year veteran of the force.
Both the corporal and Apperson had been arrested in separate incidents, Detroit Police Department chief James White announced on July 31, 2023. The department has yet to reveal the corporal’s name.
Also on July 31, 2023, Apperson was arraigned by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. He was allowed release with global positioning system (GPS) tether and given a $100,000 personal bond.
Both Apperson and the corporal are currently suspended with pay. White is set to recommend to the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners that their pay be revoked.
