David Samuel Brown, 28, of Marion County, Indiana, United States was at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Marion County at around 11:40 a.m. on July 31, 2023. He was armed with a loaded gun and was carrying a backpack.
A school staffer saw Brown near the school’s football field and notified an officer with the Indianapolis Public Schools Police Department assigned to the school. The officer could smell the smell the odor of marijuana as he got closer to Brown.
When the officer approached, Brown was holding a green object that he was trying to conceal in his hand. The officer placed Brown in handcuffs and conducted a test to assure that the handcuffs were not obstructing blood circulation.
Later, the officer identified the green object as a green leaf substance assumed to be marijuana. A search of Brown’s backpack yielded an almost full jar of green leaf substance.
Also found in Brown’s backpack were a debit card belonging to a Caucasian female, an Indiana driver’s license belonging to the same Caucasian female, a small vape pen, an unopened bottle of alcohol, a red plastic container with a $5 bill inside, cigar wraps and multiple unused plastic sandwich bags. The backpack also had a silver Smith & Wesson 10 mm semi-automatic handgun and a magazine containing ammo (9 live 40 mm rounds).
Brown was arrested, booked into Marion County Jail in Indianapolis and charged with weed possession, a misdemeanor, and two counts relating to the firearm and trespassing, which are both felonies. It has yet to be confirmed whether or not he is an Arsenal Arsenal Technical High School almnus.
On April 20, 2023, Arsenal Technical High School student Derrick Marshi Houston Jr. was fatally shot in the area of Breen Drive and N. Brentwood Avenue in Indianapolis. He was 15.
