Daniel W. Waddington, 68, of American Fork, Utah County, Utah, United States used to be a Long Beach City Police Department sergeant in Long Beach, California, USA. He worked as an advisor and consultant for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Global Counter-Terrorism Form and the International Centre of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism.
Waddington and Tauna Kern Waddington, 64, have been married since September 22, 1979. They have three sons and one daughter together.
In 1981, Daniel earned his bachelor’s degree in justice administration from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, USA in 1981. He earned his master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Long Beach in Long Beach in 1986 and his PhD in criminal justice from the State University of New York at Albany in Albany, New York, USA in 2016.
From August 2015 to August 2021, Daniel was an adjunct professor of criminal justice at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. From May 2022 to June 2023, he was a coordinator for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in Maputo, Mozambique.
On July 11, 2023, the American Fork Police Department received a report that Daniel had tried to video record a girl, then 13, taking a shower. He maintained a position of trust over the girl.
At least 300 images and videos of child pornography were found in Daniel’s phone and laptop. At around 7:00 p.m. on August 3, 2023, he was arrested in American Fork.
Daniel was booked into the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork, Utah County without bail. He was charged with first-degree felony count of aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor and 10 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
