Melanie Michelle Cohn Bech, 28, of Guatemala City, Guatemala is Miss Universe Guatemala 2023. She is the first mother confirmed to compete at Miss Universe 2023.
An alumna of Galileo University in Guatemala City, Cohn has a bachelor’s degree in public relations and communication. She obtained a diploma in television and radio broadcasting from PCS Internacional in Guatemala City.
Cohn is an entrepreneur, a television host, a radio announcer and a professional model. She gave birth to her son in 2016 and to her daughter in 2021.
On June 7, 2013, Cohn was crowned Miss Guatemala Latina 2013. She later became the first Miss Grand International candidate representing Guatemala.
On September 21, 2013, Cohn represented Guatemala at Reina Mundial del Banano 2013 and became fourth runner-up to Manou Volkmer of Germany. The Guatemalan beauty queen was unplaced when she represented her home country at Miss Grand International 2013 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on November 19, 2013.
On September 6, 2014, Cohn represented Guatemala at Miss América Latina del Mundo 2013 at Barceló Maya Beach Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. She was third runner-up to Nicole Pinto of Panama, who was dethroned and replaced by first runner-up Yanire Ortiz of Spain.
On August 6, 2023, Cohn represented Ciudad Capital at Miss Universe Guatemala 2023. She competed against 15 other candidates at the Gran Sala Efraín Recinos of Centro Cultural Miguel Ángel Asturias in Guatemala City, Guatemala and won the title.
Aside from winning the Miss Universe Guatemala 2023 crown, Cohn also won the Mejor Model Fotografica award. The respective first, second, third, fourth and fifth runners-up were Hassell Zúñiga of Izabal, Brianna Herrarte of the United States’ Guatemalan community, Cielo Pereira of Alta Verapaz, Dayana García del Cid of San Raymundo and Evelyn Tejada of Santa Catarina Pinula.
On Novemebr 18, 2023, Cohn will represent Guatemala at Miss Universe 2023 at the Gimnasio Nacional José Adolfo Pineda in San Salvador, El Salvador. She is expected to compete for the crown against more than 80 other candidates.
