Dean William Zook of The Villages, Florida, United States has died. He was 87.
Aside from The Villages, Zook lived in other parts of Florida including Pensacola, Ormond Beach and Summerfield. He also lived in Columbia, Maryland, USA, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA and in Jackson, Michigan, USA.
In 1981, Zoom and his wife moved to The Villages. He enjoyed playing golf there.
Also a golf lover is Robert Edward Moore Jr., 76, of Weston, Broward County, Florida, who owns a 2022 Black Lexus RX 350. On November 8, 2022, he scored a hole-in-one at the Tarpon Boil Executive Golf Course in The Villages.
On the evening of June 28, 2023, Moore Jr. and his wife pulled into the Glenview Country Club in The Villages for dinner at its restaurant. He mistakenly thought his car was struck by Zook at the parking lot.
At around 6:35 p.m., Moore, who is 6’2″ tall, allegedly punched Zook repeatedly at the parking lot. The beating ended when Moore realized the vehicle Zoon struck belonged to someone else.
When police officers arrived at the parking lot, Zook and his wife were still there while Moore was already gone. A video surveillance from the club helped the officers identify Moore as the suspect.
Zook suffered from internal bleeding in his brain and airlifted to a facility in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. He was placed on hospice care at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville on July 15, 2023 and passed away on July 16, 2023.
On July 26, 2023, detectives interviewed Moore at his residence in West. He claimed he believed Zook was was trying to flee after hitting the car.
The surveillance footage allegedly contradicts Moore’s statements. He was arrested without incident for aggravated manslaughter of an elderly person and booked into the Sumter County Jail in Wildwood. Sumter County, Florida.
Bond for Moore was set at $30,000. On September 23, 2023, he will appear in court before Judge Mary P. Hatcher.
