Mary Todd, 21, of Salem, Lee County, Alabama, United States was at Riverfront Park in Montgomery, Montgomery County, Alabama on August 5, 2023 with her fellow Selma residents Zachery Chase Shipman, 25, and Allen Todd, 23, and Richard Roberts, 48, of Orange Beach, Baldwin County, Alabama. They docked their pontoon boat in the Harriott II‘s reserved spot.
At around 7:00 p.m., Harriott II captain Jim Kittrell, 62, of Montgomery was trying to dock the riverboat at Riverfront Park but Roberts, Shipman, Allen and Mary refused to move their boat and walked away. For about 15 minutes, the Harriott II, which had 227 passengers, sat idle near the dock.
Using loudspeaker, the crew from the Harriott II tried to reach the owners of the boat, who were reportedly intoxicated. The owners responded with vulgar language and hand gestures.
Kittrell ordered his co-captain Damien Pickett, 56, of Montgomery to move the vessel himself. A crew member, 16, transported Pickett to the dock via a smaller vessel and while Pickett was trying to move the unmanned pontoon boat out of the way, he was attacked by Roberts, Shipman, Allen and Mary.
The teenage worker was also assaulted. Some of the riverboat crew members and other bystanders helped the victims and the stranded Harriott II passengers were forced to witness an all-out brawl.
When the brawl ended that night, 13 people were detained and questioned. The were released that night.
On August 8, 2023, Roberts turned himself in to the Selma Police Department. He was charged with two counts of third-degree assault.
On August 9, 2023, Shipman and Allen turned themselves in to the Montgomery Police Department. They were each charged with one count of third-degree assault.
On August 10, 2023, Mary turned herself in to the Montgomery Police Department. She was booked into the Montgomery Municipal Jail and charged with one count of third-degree assault.

I wouldn’t want to support Chase Shipman’s business in Selma , school teacher should be fired I wouldn’t want her near my children heart not right and I’m glad everyone is turning themselves in as they should anyone that did a crime should same as they participated in the brawl simple as that and considering the captain had trouble out of these same people last year and was told by police come on it was a joke when they had taken a golf cart that was used to assist the elderly of the Harriot 11 that wasn’t a joke and this isn’t either it’s time to see things for what this was. Not just intoxicated people these people don’t like to follow the rules and I believe this was racially.motivated of course no hate crimes good ole white Americans
