Ian Milam, 37, of Pittsford, Monroe County, New York, United States is a sixth-grade math teacher at Cosgrove Middle School in Spencerport, Monroe County. The Spencerport Central School District hired him in 2018.
While employed as a Cosgrove Middle School math teacher, Milam allegedly contacted two girls aged 12 and 11 via Snapchat. Posing as a high school student in the Spencerport School District, he allegedly had numerous sexually explicit conversations with the two girls.
Milam allegedly forced the older girl to send him sexually explicit photos. He also allegedly manipulated the younger one into sending him a photo of herself in a tank top.
On May 3, 2023, the Greece Police Department in Greece, Monroe County received a report of a sexually explicit video on the older girl’s phone, which she received from the younger girl. Investigators traced the material back to Milam.
On August 9, 2023, Milam was arrested and he made his initial appearance in court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen. He was charged with production, receipt and possession of child pornography and transfer of obscene material to a minor.
According to the Spencerport Central School District, Milam is on administrative leave. His access to all district electronic resources and buildings has been revoked.
Milam is prohibited from having any contact with students, staff or families in the school district. At 10:00 a.m. on August 14, 2023, he will attend a detention hearing.
