Abigail Jo “Abby” Shry, 43, of Alvin, Brazoria County, Texas, United States is a supporter of 45th U.S. president Donald Trump, 77. Aside from Alvin, she has lived in other parts of Texas including Houston, Manvel, Rosharon and Santa Fe.
Shry has two children, who were born in 2004 and 2006. Both children currently live with her parents.
In September 2022, Shry was found guilty of misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor criminal mischief and was sentenced to 30 days in jail. On July 11, 2023, she was charged with misdemeanor threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury, arrested and released on bond.
On August 1, 2023, a grand jury indicted Trump in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, conspiracy against rights and obstructing an official proceeding. Tanya Sue Chutkan, 61, is the judge overseeing the criminal trial.
On August 3, 2023, Trump appeared at an arraignment where he pleaded not guilty. At around 7:50 p.m. on August 5, 2023, Shry called the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C. and left a voice message for Chutkan saying, “Hey you stupid slave n****r, you are in our sights.”
“We want to kill you,” Shry continued. “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you so tread lightly, b***h. You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it.”
In the same message, Shry also threatened to kill Sheila Jackson Lee, 73, who has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas’s 18th district since January 3, 1995. On March 27, 2023, Lee announced she was running for mayor of Houston, Texas.
When Federal Bureau of Investigation agents went to Shry’s residence in Alvin on August 8, 2023, she admitted to making the threatening messages but said she had no plans to travel to Washington, D.C. to kill Chutkan or to Houston to kill Lee.
On August 10, 2023, Chutkan was spotted with the protection of U.S. Marshals. On August 11, 2023, she imposed a protective order in the case limiting what evidence handed over by prosecutors Trump and his legal team can publicly disclose and on the same day, Shry was arrested.
On August 14, 2023, Shry’s father Mark Shry, 69, of Alvin testified at a preliminary detention hearing in Texas before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sam Sheldon. Accordin to Mark, Abby is a non-violent alcoholic who sits on her couch daily watching the news while drinking too many beers.
Mark added that Abby calls people and threatens them when she is agitated by the news. He volunteered to let her live with him and her mother and to serve as a third-party custodian.
However, Sheldon ordered Abby detained. On September 13, 2023, Abby will attend a full bond hearing in Houston.
