Travis Kirby Ikeguchi was a Japanese-American man. Originally from Florida, United States, he later moved to Cedar Glen, San Bernardino County, California, USA.
Ikeguchi was 39 years younger than Laura Ann Carleton, the owner of the clothing store Mag.Pi in Cedar Glen. They did not know each other until he confronted her on the evening of August 18, 2023 about an LGBTQ+ Pride flag hanging outside of her clothing store.
Carleton confronted Ikeguchi after he tore the flag. He yelled many homophobic slurs towards her before he used an unregistered Smith & Wesson 9mm automatic semi-automatic pistol to fatally shoot her then ran from the scene.
When San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Ikeguchi and tried to arrest him, he shot at the deputies, who then fired back. Here are 13 more things about him:
- He lived in Sanford, Seminole County, Florida with David Jay Ikeguchi, Janet Elane Ikeguchi and Clare A. Ikeguchi.
- Aside from Sanford, he lived in other parts of Florida including Lake Mary.
- He did not have a license to carry a concealed weapon.
- On September 8, 2014, he registered to vote in Seminole County while residing in Lake Mary. He had no party affiliation.
- On November 4, 2014, he voted in Seminole County during the U.S. general election.
- On November 8, 2016, he voted in Seminole County during the U.S. general election.
- On May 12, 2021, he filed a petition to change his name in San Bernardino County Superior Courts in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County. It was denied.
- On May 16, 2023, he wrote on Twitter, “Pray that pride month would be cancelled and overturn same-sex marriage!!!”
- On June 13, 2023, he posted on Twitter a photo of a burning LGBTQ+ Pride flag and wrote, “What to do with the LGBTQP flag?” On June 16, 2023, he wrote on Twitter, “Bunch of judicial suprematist BS that these conservatives like Jaimee Michell are saying that they are against groomers, but that is what LGBTQP pervs are all about including homosexuality!!! It is like Sarah calling out someone who is trans yet Sarah is trans too!!! Hypocrites!”
- On June 18, 2023, he wrote on Twitter, “Abortion and same-sex marriage are both immoral and are design to destroy humanity one by one. So if someone is pro-abortion and pro-LGBTQP, they are at war against the foundation of family values.” On June 20, 2023, he asked on Twitter, “Is the USCCA now going along with this woke agenda of allowing pedos in their club?” On June 21, 2023, he wrote on Twitter, “Christians stop voting Republicans and vote Tom Hoefling instead!”
- On July 1, 2023, he wrote on Gab, “The answer to abortion and same sex marriage and LGBTQP agenda is the abolition movement of anti-slavery of 1859.”
- On August 17, 2023, his family went to the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Station in Twin Peaks, San Bernardino County to report him missing.
- At around 5:00 p.m. on August 18, 2023, San Bernardino County Sherriff’s Office deputies fatally shot him after he fatally shot Carleton. He was 27.
