Margaret Frances “Maggie” Elizabeth Sweeney, 37, Franklin, Macon County, North Carolina, United States is 5’5″ tall. Aside from Franklin, she has lived in other parts of North Carolina including Otto.
As soon as Sweeney was reported missing on August 18, 2023, Franklin Police Department officers started an investigation. The information provided alluded that the Franklin woman was either endangered or dead.
On August 19, 2023, Sweeney was found safe at a local park in a nearby town. The Franklin Police Department, as well as other police departments, spent a total of 75 hours searching for her and investigating the case.
Sweeney does not have a consistent place of residence. After she was found, Franklin Police Department first sergeant Randy Dula continued the investigation.
Dula found details about the possibility that Sweeney made anonymous third-party false reports to a friend and the Department of Social Services (DSS) that she had been murdered. She allegedly used an app to conceal her identity and send text messages to the friend and a DSS agent, which claimed she had been beaten to death with a tire iron.
On August 21, 2023, Sweeney was arrested. She was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court on September 7, 2023.
On November 2, 2016, Sherri Graeff Papini, now 41, of Redding, Shasta County, California, USA went missing and hid in the residence of James R. Reyes, now 39, in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California. She was arrested and charged with making false statements to federal law enforcement officers and 34 counts of mail fraud on March 3, 2022 and sentenced her to 18 months in prison on September 19, 2022.
On July 13, 2023, Carlethia Nichole “Carlee” Robinson Russell, 25, of Hoover, Alabama, USA went missing after calling 911 and falsely reporting that a male toddler was walking on a highway that runs south of Birmingham, Alabama. On July 28, 2023, she was arrested and charged with false reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting an incident.
