Monique Riley of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia was raised in the Shire of Noosa, Queensland, Australia. An advocate for self-defense, she has a passion for boxing and all things exercise and sport.
On September 9, 2022, Riley was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2022 at the Warner Bros. Movie World in Gold Coast, Queensland. Annalise Dalins of Melbourne, Ciara Grehan of Gold Coast, Hanni Rose Howe of Adelaide and Alana Deutsher-Moore of Gold Coast were the respective first, second, third and fourth runners-up.

On September 1, 2023, Riley will crown her successor at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins in Melbourne. It is the 19th edition of the national beauty pageant that selects Australia’s Miss Universe candidate.

Currently, Australia has 20 Miss Universe placements including the coronation of Kerry Anne Wells and Jennifer Hawkins. The most recent one was achieved by Riley.
On July 29, 1972, Wells represented Australia at Miss Universe 1972, competed against 60 other candidates at the Cerromar Beach Hotel in Dorado, Puerto Rico, United States and won the title. On June 1, 2004, Hawkins represented Australia at Miss Universe 2004, competed against 79 other candidates at the Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones Mitad del Mundo (CEMEXPO) in Quito, Ecuador and won the title.
On January 14, 2023, Riley represented Australia at Miss Universe 2022 and competed against 83 other candidates at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. She finished in the Top 16.
