Avriel Rose Hooks, 20, of Lynchburg, Virginia, United States has died. She was 20.
Michael L. Perry III, 21, of Lynchburg is Hooks’ estranged husband. In March 2023, she gave birth to their son.
Hooks is Ashley Pittman‘s daughter and Lydia Page‘s sister. On August 22, 2023, Hooks went to work wearing a black tank top and black leggings.
On August 22, 2023, Pittman took Hooks home. That was the last time Hooks was seen alive.
At around 6:00 a.m. on August 23, 2023, Pittman received a text message from Hooks’ number. The message said Hooks was at a friend’s house and she needed some “me time”.
It did not seem like it was written by Hooks, according to Pittman. When Pittman went to Hooks’ house to check on her later that day, the lights were on, the door was unlocked and Hooks was nowhere to be found.
Pittman went to the Lynchburg Police Department and reported her daughter missing. On August 24, 2023, Perry reposted the department’s news release about Hooks’ disappearance on Facebook.
“My wife is missing,” Perry wrote. “I’m not okay yo the police questioned me for 5 hours held me for 12 I need any information you can give I’m a husband and a father she’s my wife and the mother of my child we miss her.”
On August 29, 2023, Hooks was found dead in a wooded area off U.S. 60 Lexington Turnpike in Amherst, Amherst County, Virginia. Perry was arrested and booked into the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.
Perry was charged with second-degree murder and unlawful disposal of a dead body. He is being held without bond.
