Wan Xu, 34, lives in an apartment in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York City, New York, United States with her husband. They have one child together.
Originally from China, Xu and her husband arrived in the U.S. in May 2023. She works in a foot massage salon near their apartment in Sunset Park.
After finishing work on August 29, 2023, Wu went to the Chambers Street station in Tribeca, Manhattan, New York City. She was heading home and waiting for a No. 2 train at the station when Samuel Junker, 41, of White Plains, Westchester County, New York came up from behind at around 11:00 p.m.
Without provocation, Junker and shoved Xu onto subway tracks. The two did not know each other.
As shown by surveillance video, Junker was wearing a ripped and dirty red shirt, jeans and sneakers without laces. As he fled, subway riders rushed to save Xu before any oncoming trains approached.
Xu was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital in New York City with a minor leg injury. Before her release, doctors told her she would need surgery to reset her bone properly.
Currently, Xu is recovering in her apartment in Sunset Park. On August 31, 2023, Junker was arrested and charged with felony assault.
