Bradley Kenneth “Brad” Lavan, 30, of Somerset, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States is a previous regional director with the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. He also served with the Somerset Township Fire Department.
From 2011 to 2016, Lavan attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. In May 2019, he was hired as deputy director and 911 coordinator of the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services.
Between January 1, 2021 and January 26, 2023, Lavan allegedly abused five children aged 3 to 6 at his residence in Somerset. On January 25, 2023, the Somerset Borough Police Department began investigating him.
Lavan is accused of grooming the five children and forcing them to perform various sexual acts while they were in his residence. He allegedly used pornographic material to one of the children to teach the child how to perform sexual acts.
In March 2023, the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services fired Lavan. On the morning of September 1, 2023, he was arrested at his residence in Somerset and booked into the Somerset County Prison in Somerset.
On five separate cases, Lavan was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kenneth W. Johnson. Lavan was charged with 39 counts including rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and statutory sexual assault.
Bail for Lavan was set at $750,000 straight cash bond for the five separate criminal complaints. At 11:00 a.m. on September 12, 2023, he will attend his preliminary hearing before Johnson.
