Who is Lujane Yacoub?

Lujane Yacoub ( لجين يعقوب ) is a Bahraini-American actor, artist, dancer, model and beauty queen. She is an active volunteer in several local organizations in Bahrain teaching children what she loves most, which is arts.

While based in Hamala, Bahrain, Yacoub competed in Miss Universe Bahrain twice. Her advocacy is empowering children through art and helping the less fortunate.

Being a woman in Bahrain, Yacoub finds it important to showcase the fact that Arab women are not oppressed as they have the capability to hold their own within the culture. Here are 13 more things about her:

  2. Her Bahraini father Yasser Yacoub is a civil engineer and managing director of a multinational architectural and engineering consulting firm.
  3. Her American mother Christy Burton is a former first grade teacher at the Modern of Knowledge School in Manama and the founder of the Bahrain Dance Academy in Hamala.
  4. She was raised in the United Arab Emirates.
  5. Growing up with a processing disorder, she was failing most subjects before being properly diagnosed in fourth grade.
  6. Among the actors she admires are Miss World Malaysia 1983 Michelle Yeoh and Miss USA 1986 first runner-up Halle Berry.
  7. In 2014, she began drawing.
  8. In 2016, she moved to Bahrain.
  9. In May 2017, her mother opened the Anime/Manga Art Exhibition at the More Words studio in Budaiya, Bahrain to celebrate the talent and work of 21 artists and to support her.
  10. She was able to catch the Met Gala exhibition “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, which was on view from May 10, 2018 to October 8, 2018.
  11. She was Miss Universe Bahrain 2022 first runner-up.

2020

2022

  • In an interview with Bahrain Confidential in February 2022, she was asked to describe her artistic process. She said, “I don’t stick to a linear plan and constantly add or change around elements until I’ve layered enough to create a final piece. I start with a simple idea and build upon it using references I’ve compiled as a base.”
  • In March 2022, she participated in the Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) 2022 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  • She starred in the music video of Xenai‘s song “Tell Me Why You’re Awake”, which was released on May 18, 2022.
  • On September 11, 2022, she competed against six other Miss Universe Bahrain 2022 finalists. She was runner-up to Evlin Khalifa.

2023

  • In May 2023, she graduated from Bahrain High School.
  • On September 2, 2023, she competed against six other Miss Universe Bahrain 2023 finalists and won the title.
  • On November 18, 2023, she represented Bahrain at Miss Universe 2023 and competed against 83 other candidates at the José Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador, El Salvador. She was unplaced.

2024

  • From April 16-18, 2024, she represented Bahrain in the 2024 United Nations Economic and Social Council Youth Forum at UN Headquarters in Turtle Bay, Midtown Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States.
  • On May 20, 2024, she met Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.
  • In September 2024, she went to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.
