Both Laurell Reynolds, 60, and Norton Blake, 43, are residents of the Bronx, New York City, New York, United States. Also living in the Bronx is her daughter Lashanne Reese, 41, a Bronx Community Justice Center employee.
Reynolds is disabled and she walks with a cane. Before attacking her recently, Blake had at least nine prior arrests for assault, drug possession, trespassing, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and possessing stolen property and other crimes dating back to 2002.

On the early morning of September 1, 2023, Reynolds left Reese’s home in the Bronx to go home and change. The mother was supposed to return for a party the daughter was having.
At around 3:30 a.m., Reynolds and Blake got into an argument while they were walking through the West 116 Street and Lenox Avenue station in Harlem, Upper Manhattan, New York City. Dressed in dirty clothes, he attacked her for around 2 minutes.

Using Reynolds’ wooden cane, Blake hit her in the head, arms, hands, stomach, leg and back more than 50 times. and the cane snapped in two. He also hit her with a belt.
As Blake yelled at Reynolds and as she creamed for help, an Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employee took a video of the attack inside the subway station and alerted the police. When New York City Police Department officers responded to the scene, Reynolds and Blake reportedly offered conflicting accounts of the attack.
NYPD officers let Norton Blake go then arrested him.
After Blake gave the officers a fake name, they let him go free. Meanwhile, Reynolds was sent to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem in Harlem.
“He needs help,” Reese said of Blake in an interview with the New York Post. ” No, he shouldn’t be on the street. He just attacked my mother and beat her with a cane.”
At around 6:30 a.m. on September 6, 2023, Blake was arrested and charged with assault. Wearing a navy blue shirt and pants, he flew into a rant about the end of days as he was hauled through the NYPD’s Transit District 3 police precinct.
“Judgment is coming on the face of the Earth,” Daily Mail quoted Blake as saying. “World War III is upon us! Judgment is coming upon the face of the Earth!”
