On December 30, 2020, Idd’s younger brother Dolal Bayle Idd was fatally shot by Minneapolis Police Department officers in a traffic stop at the Holiday Gas station near East 36th Street and Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Dolal, who was suspected of illegally selling firearms, was 23.
In November 2022, Dalal was released from prison. He was under the supervision of the Hennepin County Department of Community Corrections.
On the evening of September 12, 2023, Dalal was at home in Eden Prairie with three children including his brother Abdullahi Adod Gelle, 7. That night, Dalal allegedly fatally strangled Abdullahi inside their residence.
At around 10:10 p.m., Dalal called 911 and told the operator he was experiencing mental health issues. During the call, Dalal said he had harmed someone and he believed it was “for the greater good”.
“I don’t know what I just did,” Dalal said during the call. Minutes later, Eden Prairie Police Department officers responded to a welfare check at the residence in Eden Prairie.
The officers found Abdullahi unresponsive and without a pulse. The boy was taken to Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Hennepin County where he was later pronounced dead.
