Ryan Clinkunbroomer of the Santa Clarita Valley, Los Angeles County, California, United States has died. He was 30.
Clinkunbroomer, his father and his grandfather served as Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies. At around 6:00 p.m. on September 16, 2023, Clinkunbroomer was in his patrol car while on duty with the department’s station in Palmdale, Los Angeles County when Kevin Cataneo Salazar, 29, of Palmdale allegedly pulled up to the deputy’s car.
Salazar allegedly shot Clinkunbroomer in the head then fled the scene in a gray Toyota Corolla. The deputy was taken to the Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster, Los Angeles County where he was pronounced dead.

In 2010, Clinkunbroomer graduated from West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch, Santa Clarita Valley. While attending the school, he ran cross country.
In 2015, Clinkunbroomer joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In July 2018, he started serving at the department’s station in Palmdale as a field training officer.
On September 12, 2023, Clinkunbroomer proposed to his girlfriend. On September 18, 2023, Salazar was arrested at his residence in Palmdale.
Kevin Cataneo Salazar
In 2018, Salazar was diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic, according to his mother Marle Salazar, 53. He tried to take his own life twice since his diagnosis, she claimed.
Marle told the Los Angeles Times that Kevin was mentally ill. She pointed out that his son is being accused of shooting a deputy but nobody is mentioning his record for needing mental help.
In 2022, Kevin was hospitalized in Sylmar, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Marle told the publication. She said she was not aware that he owned a gun.
