Sa Myer Oo (စန်းမြာဦး) is a Burmese-Finnish beauty queen from Vaasa, Ostrobothnia, Finland. Her Karenni parents had to flee the Karen conflict in Kayin State, Myanmar, formerly known as Karen State, Burma.
“They arrived at the Thai border,” Sa said of her parents in an interview with The Irrawaddy. “I was born while they were fleeing. There was no doctor. My mother told me that I only weighed 2 kilos when I was born.”
Sa told the publication that her childhood was not secure. She spent the first 11 years of her life at at a refugee camp near the Myanmar-Thailand border.
According to Sa, she and her family survived on food donated by others at the refugee camp, which she said was like a prison. Here are 13 more things about her:
