Rui Jiang, 35, of Falls Church, Virginia, United States is accused of making suspicious and concerning posts on Instagram. Some of the posts included images of Park Valley Church in Haymarket, Prince William County, Virginia.
A resident of Laurel, Prince George’s County, Maryland, USA reported the posts to the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Millersville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland. After finding Jiang’s residence, the department contacted the Fairfax County Police Department in Fairfax, Virginia.
When Fairfax County Police Department officers responded to Jiang’s residence in Falls Church, he was not there. They were informed that his car was tracked to Park Valley Church in Haymarket.
An off-duty police officer working an assignment at Park Valley Church located the car at the building. The officer is from the Prince William County Police Department in Woodbridge, Prince William County.
Through a separate door, Jiang entered the building. Church staff members were monitoring him at the time.
Jiang was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun, an additional magazine, a folding knife and a folding credit-card style knife. He was arrested and no one was injured.
The firearm was not reported stolen and Jiang was determined to have a concealed weapon permit. He was charged with threats of bodily harm and carrying a dangerous weapon in a place of religious worship and he is currently being held without bond.
