A Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida, United States used to persona of a parent of a child aged 11 and started working in an undercover capacity on August 3, 2023 on a social media application. The goal was to identify individuals who were attempting to sexually exploit children.
The undercover started a private conversation on the app with Jason Charles Nicholas, 53, Ramona, San Diego County, California, USA whose user name was cldad. The latter expressed his desire to have sex with the purported child aged 11 in the undercover’s residence and falsely claimed that he lived in Florida.
After abandoning the plan, Nicholas threatened the undercover that he would expose the undercover’s purported criminal sexual conduct unless the undercover streamed live video of the purported child to him. The undercover refused to do so and the Ramona man apologized for the threats he made.
For several weeks, Nicholas and the undercover continued communicating online. In their conversations, the Ramona man revealed that he had abused a young child after overdosing the child with medication and he has been brushing up against and taking surreptitious photos of young girls in public places.
On August 17, 2023, Nicholas sent the undercover six videos and two photos that depicted young children being sexually abused. The FBI investigated the material and confirmed that cldad is Nicholas.
On September 21, 2023, Nicholas was on his way to work when he was arrested by FBI agents with the help of San Diego County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Several electronic devices were seized when a federal search warrant was executed as his residence in Ramona that day.
Nicholas has been indicted for distributing child sexual abuse materials over the internet. His mugshot has yet to be released.
