Florida, United States residents Marc Cohen, 63, and Jesse Montez Thorton II, 27, were both inside the AMC Pompano Beach 18 in Pompano Beach, Broward County, Florida on the evening of July 10, 2023. Cohen was with his wife while Thorton was with a woman he was dating.
Cohen and his wife bought VIP tickets that included assigned seating for a movie. When the couple arrived at the movie theater, they noticed Thorton and his date in their VIP seats.
Shortly before 10:00 p.m., Cohen told Thorton about the pre-paid movie seats. The latter allegedly just stared at the elderly man and refused to get up.
“You, guys, can just keep the seats,” Cohen told Thorton. While the elderly man was walking away, Thorton allegedly said, “Go run to your wife, little boy.”
“You know I’m not the one who’s being a little boy,” Cohen responded. “You took my seats and you didn’t apologize or you didn’t say thank you and I let you keep them.”
Thorton jumped up and punched Cohen repeatedly. The attack was caught on camera.
On September 28, 2023, Thorton was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale.
Bail for Thorton was set at $250,000. He was charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm.
