Mitchell Wasek, 28, lives in an apartment in Dallas, Texas, United States. His parents Donald “Don” E. Wasek, 65, and Daryn Perry Wasek, 60, got married on October 23, 1992.
Don Wasek
Don owns a house on the banks of Lake Travis, a reservoir on the Colorado River in Texas. He and Daryn also own a condo in Austin, Travis County, Texas and a vacation home in Telluride, San Miguel County, Colorado, USA.
In December 2017, Don and Daryn signed a contract to purchase a unit in a residential condominium building in Texas. Developed by 5th and West, the building was then in the early stages of development.
In April 2019, Don and Daryn closed on the condominium when the building was complete. They discovered leaks in the unit’s curtain wall and sued 5th and West for fraud and negligent misrepresentation for failing to disclose the leaks prior to closing.
Buc-ee’s
In 1982, Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, 65, opened the first Buc-ee’s convenience store on Oyster Creek Drive in Lake Jackson, Brazoria County, Texas. He later asked Don, his business partner, to help develop the company.
In 1985, the second Buc-ee’s convenience store opened. In 1989, the company started selling clothing and fishing gear at its store in Freeport, Brazoria County.
On February 23, 2021, the first Buc-ee’s store in St. Augustine, St. Johns County, Florida, USA opened. On March 22, 2021, the company’s first store in Daytona Beach, Volusia County, Florida opened.
Mitchell Wasek
In May 2023, the Travis County Sheriff’s Office received a telephone complaint alleging improper photography had occurred at Don’s house on the banks of Lake Travis. A woman reported she and her friends were visiting the lake house with Mitchell when one friend, who works cybersecurity for the U.S. Department of Defense, noticed a charging port with a hidden camera plugged into the wall of their bathroom.
On the hidden camera’s micro-card, the woman and her friends found videos of themselves and other people in bathrooms and bedrooms at the lake house and at Mitchell’s apartment in Dallas. They went to the Dallas Police Department to file a report and turn over the camera and the micro-card.
Investigators found 68 videos recorded dating back to 2021 in multiple different locations including Don and Daryn’s condo in Austin and vacation home in Telluride. The videos contain at least 13 male and female individuals being recorded using toilets, showering, changing clothes or having sex.
Amazon records linked purchases of spy cameras to Mitchell. He was present at the time of the offenses but no other member of his family was there during these times, according to the complainants.
On October 2, 2023, Mitchell was arrested in Travis County. One hour after he was booked into the Travis County Jail in Austin, he was released on $280,000 bond.
Mitchell faces 28 separate state jail felony charges of invasive visual recordings. He is prohibited from contacting the complainants.
