Dmitri Kostyunina, 50, of Mount Dora, Lake County, Florida, United States is a science teacher at Apopka High School in Apopka, Orange County, Florida. He is currently on administrative leave.
Kostyunina admitted to inviting an underage boy to his residence in Mount Dora to watch a movie about Elton John, 76. While watching the movie, the science teacher gave the boy beer, wine and marijuana-laced chocolates.
Afterwards, Kostyunina offered to massage the boy, which the boy rejected. The teacher proceeded to perform sexual acts on the child.
Federal Bureau of Investigation investigators contacted the Mount Dora Police Department about a sexual incident at Kostyunina’s residence in Mount Dora. When interviewed by detectives, the teacher confessed to sexually battering the child.
On October 3, 2023, Kostyunina was arrested. He was charged with sexual battery of a teen and causing the child to become dependent.
On October 4, 2023, Apopka High School announced that Kostyunina would not return to campus pending the outcome of both the internal and law enforcement investigations. The school referred to his alleged crime as “an isolated situation”.
