A former resident of Woburn, Massachusetts, United States, Angela Filardo, 31, of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA is a teacher at Walter Cohen High School in New Orleans. She taught Lynell Reynolds, 18, from grades five to eight.
Reynolds is serving a juvenile life sentence because of a crime he committed against Darrelle Scott, 25, who is now confined to a wheelchair.
On March 26, 2019, Reynolds tried to rob Scott in New Orleans but Scott only had $1 so he was shot twice in the back by Reynolds. Scott survived and became paralyzed while Reynolds was convicted of attempted second-degree murder.
Orleans Parish juvenile court judge Candice Bates-Anderson sentenced Reynolds to juvenile life. Ultimately, the judge granted the teenager’s early released based on his progress while in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ).
At the time of Reynolds’ sentencing, several teachers including Filardo supported him and urged Bates-Anderson for leniency. In August 2023, the judge assigned the teenager to La Maison De Grace, an unsecured youth group home in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
In the early morning hours of September 13, 2023, Reynolds bolted from the facility with his belongings. From September 22, 2023 to October 2, 2023, there were 97 texts and phone calls between him and Filardo.
On September 23, 2023, Reynolds traveled from New Orleans to Slidell, Louisiana to Houston, Texas. Filardo allegedly drove him and dropped him off in Houston.
At around 12:45 p.m. on October 2, 2023, Reynolds was apprehended at a McDonald’s in San Antonio, Texas, USA. A total of 13 members of the U.S. Marshals Service‘s Lone Star Fugitive Task Force joined to bring the teenager into custody without incident or injuries.
Hours after Reynolds’ arrest, Filardo was arrested at her residence in New Orleans. On October 3, 2023, she appeared at Orleans Parish Criminal District Court in New Orleans before Magistrate Commissioner Peter Hamilton, who set her bond at $5,000 with the monitoring requirement.
After posting bond later that day, Filardo was released. She was charged with accessory to simple escape.
