Robert L. Carter, 39, of Missouri City, Texas, United States has worked in hospice care for decades and he is currently listed online as senior pastor of Sanctuary Church of Jesus Christ in Houston, Texas. He has a son.
In 2008, Carter allegedly started sexually assaulting a girl, then 7. He is not her father but she is his relative and they lived in the same residences.
Every night, Carter allegedly would go into the girl’s room and force her to perform sex acts on him. He allegedly would tell her, “If you do this for me, I’ll give you candy.”
“No one will believe you,” Carter allegedly told the girl. “And if you do tell, I’ll tell them that you came to me and did this.”
Carter was an employee at Greater Bible Way Church in Sunnyside, Houston when he abused the girl. The abuses allegedly happened more than 600 times and continued until 2020 at the family’s homes in Sugar Land, Fort Bend County, Texas and in Humble, Harris County, Texas and at his church office in Sunnyside.
According to girl, Carter would sometimes park behind an H-E-B grocery store and assault her before taking her to school. He allegedly would show her pornography on his phone.
In 2009, Carter’s son was born. In 2017, Carter impregnated the girl he allegedly abused.
The girl wore baggy clothes to hide her pregnancy. After she gave birth in a closet, Carter allegedly took the baby and dropped the baby off at a fire station.
Currently, the mother is working to get her child back. In September 2023, a warrant was issued for Carter’s arrest.
On October 9, 2023, Carter turned himself in to authorities in Harris County. He was charged with continuous sexual assault of a child.
Bond for Carter was set at $200,000. If he bonds out, he will be allowed to see his son during supervised visits but he will be prohibited from going to church and to any place where children might be including parks and schools.
