“The Nigerian Nightmare” Kamaru Usman, 36, of Nigeria and the United States and Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev, 29, of the United Arab Emirates will co-headline “UFC 294” in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This is the 18th Ultimate Fighting Championship event held in the capital of the UAE.
Featuring 13 mixed martial arts bouts, “UFC 292” will be held at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 21, 2023. In the co-main event of the evening, Usman and Chimaev will battle it out in the middleweight division.
In the main event of “UFC 294”, Alexander “The Great” Volkanovski, 35, of Australia will challenge reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev, 31, of Russia in a rematch. The challenger is the reigning UFC Featherweight Champion.
Chimaev’s original “UFC 294” opponent was Paulo “Borrachinha” Costa, 32, of Brazil. But on October 11, 2023, the Brazilian MMA fighter withdrew after undergoing surgery on his elbow.
Shortly after, Usman was announced as Costa’s replacement. The Nigerian-American MMA fighter reigned as the UFC Welterweight Champion from March 2, 2019 to August 20, 2022.
