Jairo Muniz, 40, of Kissimmee, Osceola County, Florida, United States and his wife have four daughters. The oldest was born in 2007 and the youngest was born in 2014.
Via cell phone, Muniz allegedly engaged in an online conversation on a social networking site with someone who he believed was a girl aged 13. Unbeknownst to him, the purported girl is an an undercover detective.
During the conversation, Muniz asked several questions about the purported girl’s sexual experience and described the sex acts he wanted to do to her. He sent a naked picture of himself to the purported girl.
Muniz is employed a laborer at a scaffolding company. He told his boss he was going to be late to work, bought condoms and went to an undercover location intending to have sex with a minor.
When Muniz arrived at the location, he was arrested. It was part of a sting operation held from September 19-26, 2023, which involved the sheriff’s departments of four Florida counties namely Hillsborough, Lake, Orange and Polk and the police departments of three Florida cities namely Haines, Lakeland and Tampa.
During the operation, detectives posed as children or guardians of children on mobile apps, online dating sites and social media platforms to investigate adults trying to meet children online for sex. Including Muniz, six suspects showed up to the undercover location.
The Kissimmee man was booked into the Polk County Jail in Bartow, Polk County and charged with four felonies namely traveling to meet a minor for sex, attempted lewd battery, transmission of material harmful to minor and two-way communication device to commit a felony. On September 24, 2023, he posted bond and was released from jail.
