Mihee Lee, 54, of Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States is the mother of Joonho Lee, 26, Joonhyun Lee, 22, and Junyeoug Lee, 15. Joonho is a student at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia
Mihee, Joonho, Joonhyun and Junyeoug are members of the Soldiers for Christ, a religious organization in Georgia. Hyunji Lee, 26, of Lawrenceville, Gawon Lee, 26, of Lawrenceville, and Eric Hyun, 26, of Suwanee, Gwinnett County are also members of the group.
In July 2023, Sehee Cho, 34, left South Korea to join the Soldiers for Christ in Georgia. She ended up at Minhee, Joonho, Joonhyun and Junyeoug’s residence in Lawrence.
On August 3, 2023, Minhee, Joonho, Joonhyun, Junyeoug, Hyunji and Gawon allegedly imprisoned Cho in the basement of the residence in Lawrence and started beating her there. The six suspects allegedly withheld food from Cho.
In particular, Mihee allegedly limited Cho’s water intake and prevented the victim from leaving or seeking medical care while undergoing what they called a religious training. After weeks of starvation and torture, the victim died.
Hyun was a victim of the same kind of torture that Cho was subjected to, according to his lawyer David Boyle. Police recovered video of Hyun being beaten by Joonho.
The group allegedly coerced Hyun into wiring tens of thousands of dollars to South Korea and borrowing money to buy a house in Suwanee. While wounded, he escaped with Cho’s body on September 12, 2023, according to Boyle.
That day, Hyun parked a silver Jaguar sedan outside of the Jeju Sauna on Gwinnett Place Drive in Duluth, Gwinnett County and called a relative to pick him up because he had injuries. The relative arrived with a Mercedes and drove Hyun to a hospital.
While at the hospital, Hyun asked the relative to retrieve a personal item from the silver Jaguar sedan, which was left outside of Jeju Sauna. The relative went back to the vehicle, Cho’s body inside the trunk and called 911, which led to the arrest of Joonho, Joonhyun, Junyeoug, Hyunji, Gawon and Hyun.
On October 11, 2023, Mihee was arrested, Hyun was released on $100,000 bail and Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Tamela Adkins denied bail to Joonho. Scott Drake is the lawyer of Joonho.
Mihee was charged with murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another and false statements or writings to the government. Joonho, Joonhyun, Junyeoug, Hyunji, Gawon and Hyun were each charged with murder, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, concealing the death of another and gang-related crimes.
