Jacob Shafer, 33, of Palestine, St. Francis County, Arkansas, United States coached softball at Augusta High School in Augusta, Woodruff County, Arkansas. He also served as a principal at the school.
While working at Augusta High School, Shafer allegedly behaved inappropriately with female students at the school. Due to the allegations, the Augusta School district terminated him.
Afterward Shafer’s termination, an investigation started in July 2023 at the request of the Woodruff County prosecutor. On October 10, 2023, the Arkansas State Police arrested him as a result of the investigation.
Shafer was charged with second-degree sexual assault and sexual indecency with a child, which are both felonies. He is being held in the Woodruff County Jail in Augusta.
Augusta is the county seat of Woodruff County. The county has two public high schools, which are Augusta High School and McCrory High School.
The late National Football League player Billy Ray Smith Sr. graduated from Augusta High School. The school is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education.
