Charles Carmine Maglio of Greenacres, Palm Beach County, Florida, United States has died. He was 54.
In January 2016, Maglio was hired to teach math at Wellington Landings Middle School in Wellington, Palm Beach County. For the 2020 school year, he moved to Wellington High School in Wellington.
While employed as a Wellington High School math teacher, Maglio was allegedly in a romantic and sexual relationship with a female student, 16, who he met in August 2022. In December 2022, he sent flowers to her at her job at a restaurant called Tijuana Flats.
The manager notified the Wellington High School principal and shortly after, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office investigators started an investigation. The girl confessed to communicating with Maglio through Snapchat and Instagram and having sex with him several times at his apartment in Greenacres.
On September 8, 2023, Maglio was arrested and charged with sexual assault by a person 24 or older involving a minor and soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student. He was represented by Cory Strolla.
On September 9, 2023, a judge set Maglio’s bond at $20,000. The Greenacres man was prohibited from contacting the girl or anyone under the age of 18.
Maglio later bonded out of jail. On October 1, 2023, he fatally shot himself.
On October 4, 2023, a court document was filed for the charges against Maglio to be dropped due to his death, according to CBS 12. The cause of death is intraoral gunshot wound, according to the medical examiner of Broward County, Florida.
