Garret Reinhart, 37, is an agent at the United States Department of Homeland Security agency U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). He has more than 10 years of service with the federal law enforcement agency.
With certificates in both firefighting and emergency medical response, Reinhart worked as chief of staff to the area port director of the Port of Los Angeles, a seaport managed by the Los Angeles Harbor Department, a unit of the city of Los Angeles, California, USA. He later became the branch chief of large-scale (LS) non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment within the Non-Intrusive Inspection Division (NIID) under the Office of Field Operations (OFO), a federal law enforcement agency with the CBP.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA, the CBP was formed on March 1, 2003. The agency is the primary border control organization in the U.S.
Why was Garret Reinhart arrested?
While employed as a CBP agent, Reinhart allegedly communicated with someone on a dating app and explicitly asked for a sexual favor. He allegedly wrote, “Hey, are you free to f— me?”
Reinhart then went to Sykes Park in East Point, Fulton County, Georgia, USA expecting to meet the person he was communicating with. Unbeknownst to the CBP agent, the latter was actually an undercover East Point Police Department officer.
At 6:30 p.m. on October 12, 2023, Reinhart arrived at Sykes Park where he was arrested by East Point Police Department officers. The officers found condoms and lubricant on the CBP agent.
After the arrest, the CBP placed Reinhart on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He was charged with conspiracy and loitering.
