Deanna Esmaeel of Crescent City, Del Norte County, California, United States has died. She was 67.
Esmaeel worked as a courthouse bailiff for the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department. In March 2021, she became a Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
In July 2023, Esmaeel’s boyfriend Daniel James Walter, 54, legally changed his name to Edward Patrick Davies. He is 6’0″ tall and he weighs around 180 pounds.
On the morning of October 12, 2023, Esmaeel failed to show up for work and was not answering her phone. Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office employees went to her residence in Crescent City and found her dead inside the house.
Davies was last seen there at 7:43 a.m. that morning. He was announced as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
At 2:17 p.m. on October 13, 2023, Davies’s car was located while he was still on the run. At 7:19 p.m., he was arrested near a homeless encampment along the Chetco River in Brookings, Curry County, Oregon, USA.
A judge signed a warrant to extradite Davies back to California. Murder charges will be filed against him.
Before becoming a law enforcement officer, Esmaeel worked as an animal trainer on film sets for decades. She is the cinematographer of the 2009 film “Necrosis” and the director of the 2010 short film “The Trainer“, which she co-wrote with Lamar Vandyke.
Esmaeel’s son Marty York, 43, of Santa Clarita, Los Angeles County, California is known for playing Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan in the 1993 film “The Sandlot“. He played Jim in the 2021 short film “Super Bois“.
York’s father Donald “Donny” York, 74, was born in Boise, Idaho, USA. Donny was a member of the rock and roll doo-wop cover group Sha Na Na.
