In 2006, Piña started conducting real estate seminars around the U.S. with RaaShaun Casey, 46, a celebrity disc jockey and radio personality known as DJ Envy. The seminars, self-promotional efforts and other marketing strategies helped Piña develop a significant social media following.

In 2017, Piña started accepting investments from investors for the alleged purchase, remodel and sale of specific real estate projects in New Jersey and other states in the U.S. To convince investors, he allegedly promised 20-45% returns on investment within five months.

But instead of using the investments, Piña allegedly commingled the money. He allegedly used new investments to pay off prior investors and spent the funds on personal expenditures.

On October 18, 2023, Piña was arrested and he appeared in federal court in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey before U.S. Magistrate Judge Edward S. Kiel. Piña was released on $1 million secured bond with electronic monitoring.
