Jeanne Terese Umana, 73, of Santa Barbara, California, United States is a former law professor at the University of California Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara. She retired in 2004.
On July 8, 2010, Umana’s husband Reid Francis Kilpatrick III died at Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands, California at age 69. They have three sons together,
On April 27, 2005, Jeanne’s father Mario Umana, who is of Italian descent, passed away at age 58. On November 17, 2013, her mother Anne T. Nigro Umana, a piano prodigy, died in Massachusetts, USA at age 102.
On September 16, 2023, Jeanne entered a house at an active construction site in Santa Barbara so she was approached by Luis Cervantes, a Latino construction worker. He told her she needed to leave because the house was on private property.
Cervantes took a video of the encounter, which showed how Jeanne tried to grab his cellphone while he was filming her. She told him, “Oh, arrest me.”
“I live here,” Jeanne continued. “I’m American. You’re a Tijuanan.”
Although Jeanne had no affiliation with the Santa Barbara Police Department, she told Cervantes that she worked “for the police”. On September 17, 2023, she went to the department to file a report for death threats and harassing phone calls.
On October 18, 2023, Jeanne was charged with battery and trespassing, which are both a misdemeanor. On November 30, 2023, she will be arraigned at Santa Barbara County Superior Court in Santa Barbara for the charges.
