Both Brody Hayes Bates, 33, and Mung Sian Kim, 31, are residents of Cullman, Cullman County, Alabama, United States. They were arrested in Cullman as part of a child exploitation sting operation conducted on October 13, 2023.

Aside from Cullman, Bates has lived in other parts of Alabama including Anniston, Baileyton, Falkville and Holly Pond. He previously lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA.

Bates was charged with traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and electronic solicitation of a child. Kim was charged with first-degree human trafficking, traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act and electronic solicitation of a child.

Including Bates and Kim, eight men were arrested by the Cullman Police Department‘s Investigative Division and Tactical Unit. On October 20, 2023, Bates was released after posting a $15,00 bond.

The investigation into the arrestees is ongoing. More charges are likely to follow and more arrests are expected, according to the Cullman Police Department.

In the operation, the department was assisted by Cullman County district attorney Champ Crocker and the Covenant Rescue Group. Based in Gardendale, Jefferson County, Alabama, the group is a nonprofit comprised of former military special operators and law enforcement personnel committed to putting an end to human trafficking.
