Members of the U.S. Marshals Service‘s Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force surrounded an apartment complex in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States at around 1:45 p.m. on October 23, 2023. Dayron Burney-Thorn, 17, was staying at an apartment there on the fourth floor.

Burney-Thorn tried to stall the investigators after they knocked and announced their presence. In an attempt to flee, he opened an exterior window of the apartment and jumped out.

The officers who were on the ground struggled with Burney-Thorn and took him in custody. Medics transported him to a hospital in Philadelphia for medical treatment.

Just before 2:00 p.m. on September 26, 2022, Burney-Thorn, Zyhied Jones, 17, Troy Fletcher, 15, allegedly fatally shot Tahmir Jones, 19, in Spring Garden, Philadelphia. Tahmir just got his general education diploma (GED) and was working with a program learning construction, according to his mother Theresa Guyton.

At around 4:30 p.m. on September 27, 2022, Burney-Thorn, Jones, Fletcher, Yaaseen Bivins, 21, Saleem Miller, 16, and another suspect were allegedly involved in a shooting outside Roxborough High School on Ridge Avenue in Philadelphia. The suspects allegedly got out of a sport utility vehicle and started firing at a group of high school football players outside the school.

One of the suspects was the getaway driver while the rest were the gunmen. Nicolas Elizalde, 14, of Havertown, Pennsylvania was caught in the crossfire and fatally shot and four other teenagers were injured in the shooting.

Elizalde was just a bystander. He was a freshman at W.B. Saul High School in Philadelphia.

On October 12, 2022, Bivins was arrested and charged with murder and four counts of aggravated assault. On October 13, 2022, Zyhied was arrested and on October 17, 2022, Fletcher turned himself in and was charged with murder and related offenses.

On January 10, 2023, a preliminary hearing began for Bivins, Zyhied, Fletcher and Miller. The teen suspects were all charged as adults.
