Richard Louis Crosby III, 36, of Mason, Ohio, United States is a disbarred attorney. He previously practiced law in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
In June 2021, Crosby allegedly created an email account and used it to communicate with a law firm in Washington D.C., USA. The firm briefly employed him.
In September 2022, Crosby used an alias to apply for an attorney position with a law firm in Miami, Florida, USA. Using the alias, he communicated with a recruiter via Zoom and claimed he was a licensed attorney admitted to the bar in New York, USA and in Washington, D.C.
In October 2022, the firm hired Crosby after he met one of its hiring managers in Florida. His starting salary was $185,000 per year with a $5,000 signing bonus.
When Crosby completed his onboarding paperwork at the law firm, he allegedly used another individual’s Social Security number, passport number and banking information. He was fired after an investigator with the Clermont County Child Support Enforcement Office revealed to the firm his real identity.
In July 2023, Crosby used the alias again and applied for a job at a law firm in Coral Gables, Florida, USA. A senior management of the firm interviewed him over Zoom.
The firm offered Crosby a starting salary of $195,000 per year with a $10,000 signing bonus. Before officially hiring him, the firm found out he was using a false identity.
On October 26, 2023, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Crosby in Mason, Ohio. He was charged with wire fraud, Social Security number fraud and aggravated identity theft.
